Working with 30 students ranging from Year 9 through to Year 13 Kate was asked to deliver a full day of workshops as part of the school’s ENRICHMENT programme covering a range of effects. After some discussion with the Head of Department Kate planned a Special FX trauma and casualty interactive makeup session, an aging demo finishing with a student design challenged based on human anatomy. Kate’s extensive makeup kit enables students to enjoy an affordable, fully hands-on, practical experience using products used within the TV, Film and Theatre industries.
Splitting the day into three mini workshops each session started with an indepth, interactive demo involving the students, Q&A, product descriptions and their uses within the industry. The students then work together in pairs, encouraging team work designing and creating characters, effects and trialling their own style and ideas.
Students from the Media Department were invited to join the session and take photos and film for their own portfolios thus incorporating the wider school community to the benefit of all involved.
Kate has worked with colleges from Cumbria to Canterbury, her Enrichment Workshop Days are relaxed, informative but with the emphasis on fun!
